Forgan Schools begin August 8, 9 and 10 Classes Begin Monday, August 13

The new school year at Forgan will begin with staff development on August 8, 9 and 10. Classes for students will begin on Monday, August 13 at 8:10 a.m.

Forgan Schools has increased the school day for dismissal time from 2:47 p.m. until 3:10 p.m. for the 2007-08 term. The elementary grades will use this extra time for lengthened instruction. The junior high and high school will use this additional time for enrichment and remediation. Buses will be running and the cafeteria will be serving meals on August 13.

Enrollment dates for students have been set for August 6 and 7 from 9 am.. through noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. Seventh through 12 grades will need to enroll on August 6. Pre-K through sixth graders will need to enroll on August 7.

"Please be advised that we would like for all students to enroll so that we can get necessary paperwork completed before the first day of school," Superintendent Travis Smalts said. "Also, in order to make things easier for parents and the school, we are asking that parents come by the school ahead of time and pick up packets. The packets can be read through and filled out at the parent’s convenience at home and then brought with them to enrollment. Packets will be made available to be picked up during the week that starts on June 30."

New to the teaching staff for the upcoming year will be Mr. Doug Bowles, Mrs. Rhonda Searcy and Ms. Randa Salisbury. Mr. Bowles will be teaching history and coaching football and golf. Mrs. Searcy will be teaching health and physical education and coaching elementary sports. Ms. Salisbury will be teaching sixth grade and coaching elementary sports.

"Our support staff has done a tremendous job of cleaning and maintaining our facilities for the upcoming school year," Smalts said. "In addition to the regular maintenance, we have had new carpet installed in the auditorium and a classroom. We have also gotten new carpet in the home dressing rooms and our coaches’ offices in both the fieldhouse and gymnasium.

"We have also had new seats installed in the gym, and the school has a new suburban to use for transportation. Some new playground equipment will arrive shortly. These as well as other changes are really dressing up our school and continue to make it something we can all be proud of."

The administration and staff at Forgan Public Schools are looking forward to a new and exciting year. Patrons are encouraged to stop by to see the changes and meet the new staff.
