NURSING HOME NEWS 05-25-06
Recent Bingo winners were Rosemary Holloway, Janice Drum, Lois Gourley, Leon Kruse, Vena Sprague, Vernon Raven, Virgie Chaloupek, Della Poorbaugh, Betha Anz and Louise Barr.
On 05-23-06 Doris Canaday, Della Poorbaugh, Vernon Raven, Virgie Chaloupek and Elizabeth Cross participated in the afternoon Bus Tour. Jean Peckham accompanied the group on the drive.
Beauty Shop workers on 05-25-06 were Sandra Mahaffey and Carolyn Venable.
Pastor Timothy Heemstra of the Forgan Methodist Church led our Devotional on May 25th.
We had Lemon Cake with punch for refreshments for the Birthday Party on 05-25-06. Leon Kruse, Celia Sanchez and Pauline Curfman celebrated birthdays in May and Lois Gourley is the only resident with a birthday in June.
In compliance with Federal and State Guidelines the Beaver County Nursing Home gives respect and privacy in each resident’s medical care program. Case discussion, consultation, examination and treatment shall remain confidential and shall be conducted discreetly. Personal and medical records shall be confidential.
Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Ada McManaway. She had been a resident here in the nursing home since October 2002. We will miss her.

NURSING HOME NEWS 05-01-06
This month’s Resident Council Meeting was held on April 7th. We talked about the seating arrangement in the East Dining Room, the Cow Chip celebration, Easter and an Easter Egg Hunt for the residents. The meeting ended after refreshments were served.
The Beaver United Methodist Church led Church Services on April 9th. Their Youth Group gave a sign language program and puppet show for the residents. Faith Community Chapel had the Easter Sunday Services and they had some special music accompanied with a guitar by Anna Rife.
Recent Bingo winners were Everett Oswald, Elizabeth Cross, Nola Owens, Virgie Chaloupek, Vena Sprague, Janice Drum, Lois Gourley, Genneve Overton, Myrle Oyler, Vernon Raven, Louise Barr, John Vavra, Rosemary Holloway, Pauline Curfman, Della Poorbaugh, Betha Anz and Doris Canaday.
On 04-18-06 Cheryl Cates accompanied Pauline Curfman, Vernon Raven, Virgie Chaloupek, Della Poorbaugh and Elizabeth Cross on the afternoon Bus Tour. They drove through the State Park and Lake area before touring through Beaver. On April 25th Jean Peckham accompanied the residents for the drive. Vernon Raven, Louise Barr, Virgie Chaloupek, Della Poorbaugh, Everett Oswald, Rosemary Holloway and Elizabeth Cross participated in the activity.
Janell Edwards, Cathy Shultz, Jackie Reynolds and Mary Peery were the Beauty Shop volunteers on 04-13-06, Sandra Mahaffey and Diana Croteau were the volunteers on 04-20-06 and Karen Mills and Cathy Rhodes fixed hair for the residents on 04-27-06.
Pastor Timothy Heemstra of the Forgan Methodist Church led the 11 AM Devotional on April 6th and April 20th. We sang hymns and Pastor Heemstra led us in a prayer before lunch.
The residents participated in an Easter Egg Hunt on April 14th. They looked for 200 hidden Easter Eggs in the South Courtyard. Refreshments were served to the participants in the Middle Dining Room after the activity.

The Forgan Christian Church led Church Services on April 23rd. Louise Barr played the piano for the group singing and the Clearlake Baptist Church had the services on April 30th.
Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Gwen Mulanax. Gwen had been a resident in the nursing home since April of 2004. We will miss her.
The Beaver Methodist Church’s “God Squad” did a musical program for us on the afternoon of April 26th. Pastor Torrey Curtis directed the group and played the piano for some of the songs. The residents loved hearing the children sing.
Our monthly Birthday Party was held on April 27th. Refreshments of cake & punch were served and we had music for entertainment. Joe Caldwell, Genneve Overton and Ester Reiswig celebrated birthdays in April. Leon Kruse, Celia Sanchez and Pauline Curfman will have birthdays in May.

NURSING HOME NEWS 04-24-06

Carolyn Venable was the Beauty Shop worker on Mar. 30th.
Pastor Timothy Heemstra of the Forgan Methodist Church led the 11 AM devotional for us on Mar. 30th. We sang Easter songs as well as had a short devotional before lunch was served.
Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Fleta Ritterbush and the family and friends of Kenneth Conner. Fleta was admitted in February 2000 and Kenneth was admitted in March 2003. We will miss them.
The Forgan Baptist Church led Church Services on March 26th.

NURSING HOME NEWS 03-27-06
Recent Bingo winners were Virgie Chaloupek, Janice Drum, Nola Owens, Doris Canaday, Lois Gourley, Louise Barr, Fern Hamilton, Vena Sprague, Pauline Curfman, Della Poorbaugh and Betha Anz.
Pam Morris was the volunteer in the Beauty Shop on Mar. 23. Our Beauty Shop is available to families as well as local beauty operators for resident’s hair appointments. To avoid scheduling conflicts, reservations must be made to use the Beauty Shop. Please contact Carolyn Venable at 625-4571, Monday – Friday from 8 – 4 PM to make an appointment to use the room.
Pastor Timothy Heemstra of the Forgan Methodist Church gave the devotional on Mar. 23rd. We sang several favorite hymns and Timothy led us in a prayer before lunch was served.
Eva Shook, Kim Gourley, Marie Cole and Norma Cannon celebrated birthdays in March and a birthday party was held for them in the East Dining Room on 03-23-06. They received a gift and we sang “Happy Birthday” to them. We enjoyed the refreshments of chocolate cake and cocoa as we listened to Country music. Residents having birthdays in April are Joe Caldwell, Genneve Overton, Ester Reiswig. Cards and letters need to be addressed to PO Box 220 - Beaver, OK 73932.
C. D. Eudey was dismissed.
The Forgan Baptist Church conducted the services for the residents on the 26th of March.

NURSING HOME NEWS 03-17-06
The First Christian Church of Beaver conducted the Church Services for the residents on the 12th of March.
On Mar. 14th Rosemary Holloway, Virgie Chaloupek, Vernon Raven, Louise Barr, Ozzie Oswald, Della Poorbaugh, Leona Bridwell and C.D. Eudey took the Bus Tour. Stella Hamman accompanied the group on the afternoon drive.
Recent Bingo winners were Lois Gourley, Vena Sprague, Pauline Curfman, Louise Barr, Virgie Chaloupek, Rosemary Holloway, Nola Owens, Della Poorbaugh, and Betha Anz.
Sandra Mahaffey was the volunteer in the Beauty Shop on Mar. 16th.
Irish Music was the entertainment for the Theme of the Month Party on 03-16-06. The Activity Department served the residents beautifully decorated shamrock shaped sugar cookies and lime sherbet punch for refreshments that were prepared by the Dietary Department.
Faye Day was dismissed.

March 16, 2006
Norma Gift accompanied the residents on the Feb. 28th Bus Tour. Della Poorbaugh, Rosemary Holloway, Virgie Chaloupek, Janice Drum and John Vavra participated in the activity. On Mar. 7th Cheryl Cates accompanied Della Poorbaugh, Virgie Chaloupek, Rosemary Holloway, Vernon Raven and Louise Barr on the afternoon Bus Tour.

March’s Resident Council Meeting on 03-10-06 was called to order after the residents were served refreshments of cookies and a drink of their choice. The Social Service Dir. Ramona Enlow checked with each one to see if they needed assistance with anything before Pres. Audrey Parker reported about the remodeling of the windows in the East Dining Room and about there not being anything that needed to be taken care of at this time. We talked about the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday coming up on the 17th, us having a new pharmacist, the advantages of living in Beaver and about the turkeys that live out by the bridge on the north side of town. The meeting adjourned after everyone had finished their refreshments.
Mary Ester Sallee, Chalice Sorter and Louise Barr’s daughter and son-in-law played the piano and sang songs for some of the residents on the morning of the twelfth.
The Balko Baptist Church led the Church Services here at the nursing home on Mar. 5 and the Beaver First Christian Church led the Services on Mar. 12th.

Timothy Heemstra of the Forgan United Methodist Church led the morning devotional on Feb. 16th. We sang some favorite hymns and Timothy gave a devotional message.
Betty Davis, Pat Cordes and Junetta Barby were the volunteers in the Beauty Shop this week.
We had our Theme Party on Feb. 16th. Pretty Valentine party plates and cups were used by The Activity Department to serve decorated heart shaped cookies and punch made by the Dietary Department. Each resident also received a Valentine from the children at the Beaver First Baptist Church and a box of candy. It was announced during the party that Pauline Curfman and John Vavra had been chosen by the staff to be our 2006 BCNH King & Queen. John was crowned King at the party but Pauline was unable to attend. Music composed of old and new songs were played on the piano for entertainment.
The Beaver First Baptist Church led the Church Services here at the nursing home on 02-19-06.

February 16, 2006

We were unable to have a Bus Tour this week because the Transit Bus was unavailable.
Recent Bingo players were Lois Gourley, C. D. Eudey, Thelma Pierson, Virgie Chaloupek, Della Poorbaugh, Vernon Raven, Betha Anz, Louise Barr, Rosemary Holloway, Fern Hamilton, Pauline Curfman, Doris Canaday and Vena Sprague.
Sandra Mahaffey, Pat Cordes and Diane Croteau were the volunteers in the Beauty Shop this week.
We had a Birthday Party on Feb. 9th to honor Della Poorbaugh, Gwen Mulanax and Mona Fry. They each have birthdays in February. The Activity Department served refreshments of cake and punch made by the Dietary Department. We played games for entertainment.
The residents met in the East Dining Room during the morning Round Table Activity on February 13th for Resident Council. The Social Service Director reminded them about the Valentine Holiday this week and informed them about a party on Thursday. We talked for a little while about past Valentine Days when we were in school and time spent with our children. There was no new or old business to discuss. Refreshments of raisin cookies and a beverage of their choice were served by the Activities Department.
The Beaver Assembly of God Church led the Church Services here at the nursing home on 02-12-06.

NURSING HOME NEWS
Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Loudilla Davis. Loudilla was admitted in October of 1994. We will miss her.

Jean Peckham accompanied a group of residents on the 1-24-06 Bus Tour. They traveled out north of town. Virgie Chaloupek, Louise Barr, Everett Oswald, Rosemary Holloway and Janice Drum participated in the afternoon drive.
Carolyn Venable was the only worker in the beauty shop this week. If any of our readers would be interested in working in the beauty shop once a month please contact Carolyn at 580-625-4571 between 7 and 4 PM Monday through Friday.
Sunday Church Services here at the nursing home were led by the Clearlake Baptist Church on January 28th.
 

NURSING HOME NEWS 09-12-05

Recent Bingo players were Lois Gourley, Vernon Raven, Vena Sprague, Betha Anz, Florence Gleason, Louise Barr, Nola Owens, Ilda Couch and Virgie Chaloupek.

Carolyn Venable accompanied the residents on the 09-06-05 Bus Tour. They went out southwest of town and drove all around the countryside. During the drive they discussed how tall and green the grass pastures and feed fields were. Vernon Raven Hazel McCay, Janice Drum, Louise Barr, Virgie Chaloupek and Clarence Voth participated in the afternoon activity.

Beauty Shop workers on 9-8-05 were Carolyn Venable and Stella Hamman.

Timothy Heemstra, Pastor of the Forgan Methodist Church led a devotional for the residents on 09-08-05. We enjoyed singing some old hymns.

September’s Resident Council met on 09-09-05 in the East Dining Room during the Round Table Activity. The Social Service Director talked with the group about Grandparents Day which was on 09-11-05 and several residents shared stories about their parents and grandparents.

We also talked about family names of parents and siblings. A husband of one of the residents had some recent pictures of their grandson and granddaughter with their new baby girl that he shared with us.

Under New Business we talked about the Fair Parade on September 10 and about the residents going outside to watch it when it passed by the nursing home. The Social Service Director talked with the residents about how they were doing and no one had any problems to talk about.

There was no Old Business to discuss. The Activity Assistant served everyone cookies and a drink of their choice. After the refreshments were finished the meeting adjourned. Audrey Parker agreed to be President of the Resident Council.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Wanna Luethy. Wanna had only been a resident here for a short time. We will miss her.

Some of the residents were able to watch the Fair Parade from the South side of the nursing home. It was such a beautiful day.

NURSING HOME NEWS 09-02-05

Beaver Rotary sponsored an Ice Cream Social for us on August 25. They brought several freezers of homemade ice cream to be served after our evening meal. The Rotary Members furnished the creamy dessert and helped serve the residents.

On September 1, Timothy Heemstra, Pastor of the Forgan Methodist Church conducted a musical devotional for the residents. We met in the East Dining Room before lunch for the sing-a-long.

Anita Schollenbarger and Diane Croteau were the Beauty Shop workers on 9-01-05.

NURSING HOME NEWS 08-29-05

Lura Sprague, Jane Lemmons and Beulah Winchester prepared the Monthly Supper on Aug. 15. The meal was served in the cafeteria of the nursing home. Doris Canaday, Virgie Chaloupek, Hazel McCay, Florence Gleason and their guests enjoyed the lovely supper.

Dickie Yates, Clarence Voth, Janice Drum, Louise Barr, Hazel McCay and Vernon Raven participated in the Tuesday Bus Tour. They drove out north to the Forgan Y, then toured the State Park and went past the Sale Barn before returning to the nursing home.

On 8-23-05 Doris Canaday, Ilda Couch, Vernon Raven, Louise Barr and Janice Drum went on the Bus. They went out in the country past Dickie Yates home, the Shadden Ranch, out to see the creek and then they saw some pretty, healthy cows on their way back.

On Thursday, Aug. 18 Timothy Heemstra, Pastor of the Forgan Methodist Church conducted a musical devotional for the residents. We met in the East Dining Room before lunch for the sing-a-long.

Sandra Mahaffey and Carolyn Venable were the Beauty Shop workers on 8-18-05.

The Beaver County OHCE Clubs donated sixteen hand-sewn lap robes to the nursing home on Aug. 18. They are very colorful and warm. We appreciate what they have done for our residents.

The Forgan Baptist Church led a devotional worship service for us on August 22. Wanda and Ray Cummins led the singing before the visiting preacher Paul Dickson spoke.

Florene Burden is a new admission in 120 and Wanna Luethy was admitted to 126. Cards and letters should be addressed to PO Box 220 – Beaver, OK 73932.

Thursday, Aug. 25, we had a Birthday Party to celebrate the August Birthdays. John Vavra, Hazel McCay, Virgie Chaloupek, Johnie Schlehofer, Louise Barr and Florence Sorter all had birthdays this month. Each one received a gift and we sang "Happy Birthday" to those attending the party. We played and sang some "Golden Oldies" and Clarence Voth played a few songs on the piano.

For refreshments the Activity Dept. served Cherry Cheese Cake & punch that was prepared by the Dietary Dept. Florene Burden, Dickie Yates, Ada McManaway, Vernon Raven, Mildred Barby, Nola Owens and Vena Sprague will celebrate birthdays in September.

NURSING HOME NEWS 08-15-05

On August 9 the Bus Tour went out to Vernon and Leah Jones place to see the llamas. Stella Hamman accompanied Clarence Voth, Louise Barr, Fleta Ritterbush, Janice Drum, Myra Lundgrin, Vernon Raven and Myrle Oyler on the afternoon drive.

On 8-11-05 the residents met in the East Dining Room for August’s Resident Council Meeting. The Activity Department served refreshments. Several topics were discussed by the group during the meeting that was held during the morning Round Table Activity.

Timothy Heemstra, Pastor of the Forgan Methodist led the Musical Devotional on August 11.

The Midway Country Church hosted the Theme Party for us on 8-11-05. We played rhythm band instruments with the piano music, had a barrel race by two cowboys on stick horses, a demonstration of rope tricks and an audience participation game of drawing a cowboy.

Tracer Raven and Wyatt Jett were the "Cowboys" and Kathryn Cornell played the piano. Delicious refreshments of cookies and punch were served to everyone after the entertainment.

Beauty Shop workers on 8-11-05 were Dr. Donna Long, Judy Jones, Mary Peery, Marilyn Zimmerman, Cathy Schultz, Janell Edwards.

NURSING HOME NEWS 08-08-05

Vernon Raven Clarence Voth, Janice Drum, Vergie Chaloupek and Louise Barr participated in the Bus Tour on August 2. Stella Hamman accompanied them on the drive out by Cindy and Calvin Madsen’s place then they drove past Mary Ellen Overton’s home. On the way back to the facility they watched some water flowing in a stream.

Timothy Heemstra, Pastor of the Forgan Methodist led the Musical Devotional on August 4. The program was held before lunch and we sang several favorite hymns as the residents gathered for the meal.

NURSING HOME NEWS 08-01-05

On July 25 Norma Gift accompanied the residents on their Bus Tour. They drove around the Beaver area.

We had seven residents celebrating birthdays in July and we held a birthday party in their honor on July 28. The Activity Department distributed gifts and served cake and punch for refreshments. Irene Trentham, Dean Drum, Max Fief, Bill Corbin, Mildred Curtis, Clarence Voth and Mable Adams had birthdays in July.

NURSING HOME NEWS 07-25-05

Our meeting on July 14 was called to order with some New Business about a volunteer Devotional Activity being changed later in the morning and next week.

The Social Service Director explained about a substitution devotional activity that she would conduct. We had a discussion about birthdays in July.

There was no Old Business. Each resident was interviewed to give them an opportunity to express any needs they might have. The meeting adjourned after the refreshments of cookies and a drink of choice was served by the Activity Department.

Norma Gift accompanied the residents on the weekly Bus Tour. They went out west of town.

Tonnia Doran, Cheryl Wolf and Carolyn Venable were the Beauty Shop workers on July 21.

Clearlake Baptist Church led the Church Services here at the nursing home on July 17 and Ministries of Mercy led the Church Services on July 24.

The Clearlake Janes hosted an afternoon of Bingo on July 11. They had cookies and bananas for the players. Recent Bingo winners were Florence Sorter, Louise Barr, Vernon Raven, Florence Gleason, Vena Sprague, Lois Gourley, Nola Owens and Virgie Chaloupek.

The Bus Tour on July 12 went out by Jim and Kathy Stafford’s home, the Barby Ranch and Jan and Guy Payne’s place. Virgie Chaloupek, Louise Barr, Vernon Raven, and Janice Drum went on the drive.

On July 14 the Beaver Methodist Women held the Theme Party for the residents. Jo Pattee, Lura Sprague, Dolle Needham and Julia Lee served cookies and punch for refreshments.

For entertainment Riley Lee did a ballet dance and this was followed by the group singing patriotic songs, which was accompanied with piano music by Cara McDonald. Barbara Kuykendall furnished the decorations.

NURSING HOME NEWS 07-11-05

Steve McQueen held Church Services on July 3. Louise Barr played the piano for the group singing. Steve brought his dog "Dasher" and everyone enjoyed their visit.

The Bus Tour on 7-5-05 went east and southeast of town touring the countryside. During the drive they spotted a doe and watched her for several minutes. Since she seemed reluctant to leave the area it’s possible she had a fawn hidden there.

Vernon Raven, Louise Barr, Clarence Voth, Virgie Chaloupek and Vena Sprague participated in the ride. Claudine Cash accompanied the residents on the trip.

Stella Hamman accompanied the residents on the 6-14-05 Bus Tour. They went south of town to Virgie Chaloupek’s house to see her flowers and then past Ronnie and Janie Chaloupek’s place before touring that area. Participating in the ride were Janice Drum, Virgie Chaloupek, Fleta Ritterbush, Louise Barr, Thelma Pierson, Vernon Raven, Clarence Raven and Everett Oswald.

Betty Davis, Maxine Mathis and Pat Sandusky hosted the Supper of the Month on June 13. The ladies brought and served a meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, chocolate cream pie, lemon cream pie, coffee and tea. Fern Hamilton, Clarence Voth, Florence Sorter, Velma Gaona, Louise Barr, Fleta Ritterbush and their guests enjoyed the supper in the nursing home cafeteria.

There were approximately 70 people in the choir and they preformed at the Beaver High School on June 19 for the community. They are giving concerts in several other places this summer.

Claudine Cash accompanied the residents on the June 21 Bus Tour. They went to out past Stella Hamman’s home and Virgie Chaloupek’s home to see their flower gardens and yard that are in full bloom then by the Chaloupek farm pond before going west to see other Beaver County farms.

NURSING HOME NEWS 06-13-05

Claudine Cash accompanied the residents on the 6-7-05 Bus Tour. They drove out into the country near Beaver.

Sandra Mahaffey and Stella Hamman worked in the Beauty Shop on 6-09-05.

The residents met for Resident Council on June 9, 2005 at 10 AM. The Activity Department served us refreshments of juice, coffee and banana bread.

The meeting was called to order with a talk about New Business and the Theme of the Month Party to be held later in the day and everyone was encouraged to participate in it.

Other topics discussed included a cold front moving in and the possibility of a thunderstorm. We talked about several Current Events items while we enjoyed our food and there was no Old Business. The meeting adjourned after the refreshments were finished.

The Beaver 4H Club hosted the Theme of the Month Party on 6-9-05. They served cookies and tea to the residents. Cara McDonald led the group as they sang some patriotic songs.

NURSING HOME NEWS 06-06-05

Oscar Ragan of the Beaver First Baptist Church conducted the Church Services on May 29 and Louise Barr played the piano for the group to sing hymns. On June 5 the Beaver Church of Christ led the Church Services.

Stella Hamman accompanied the residents on the 5-31-05 Bus Tour. They went southeast of town and toured the countryside before returning to Beaver. Residents participating in the drive were Fleta Ritterbush, Clarence Voth, Janice Drum, Vernon Raven, Virgie Chaloupek, Louise Barr and Everett Oswald.

They drove out by the sale barn to see how many cattle were there and then toured around Forgan and Beaver before returning to the facility.

Carolyn Venable, Stella Hamman and Claudine Cash worked in the Beauty Shop on 6-02-05.

We will be celebrating National Nursing Assistant Week starting with a "cookout" on June 8. The event is being held to honor our nursing staff for all the things they do to take care of the residents.

Stella Hamman accompanied the residents on the May 17 Bus Tour. They went southeast of town and toured the countryside before returning to Beaver.

Jean Peckham accompanied the residents on the May 24 Bus Tour. They went through the Turpin cut-through for a look at the countryside. Residents participating in the drive were Clarence Voth, Janice Drum, Vernon Raven, Virgie Chaloupek, Louise Barr and Hazel McCay.

The Monthly Birthday Party was held on May 26. The Dietary Department furnished cake and punch, which was served by the Activity Department.

For entertainment we had some "Golden Oldies" music played on the piano. Leon Kruse, Celia Sanchez and Velma Gaona had birthdays in May and Lois Gourley and Kenneth Conner will have birthdays in June.

The Anthony FCE Club hosted an afternoon of Bingo on May 23. Prizes of fruit and packages of cheese crackers with peanut butter were awarded to the winners.

NURSING HOME NEWS 05-13-05

The Monthly Birthday Party was held on April 21. Doris Cook, Joe Caldwell, Genneve Overton and Ester Reiswig all celebrated birthdays in April. Leon Kruse, Celia Sanchez and Velma Gaona will have birthdays in May.

The Bus Tour on April 26 went out to the sale barn and then went to the lake and sand hills. After that they toured the countryside south of Beaver. Jean Peckham accompanied the residents on the trip.

Stella Hamman accompanied the residents on the May 3 Bus Tour. Hazel McCay, Louise Barr, Clarence Voth, Janice Drum and Everett Oswald took the afternoon drive and they went north of town to the State Park before touring around Beaver.

On May 10 Vernon Raven, Louise Barr, Janice Drum and Clarence Voth took the Bus Tour, which went to Forgan and looked at some very pretty yards with flowers in bloom.

They then drove northeast of Forgan through the countryside. Claudine Cash from Activities accompanied them.

Carolyn Venable and Claudine Cash were the workers in the Beauty Shop on April 28, Sandra Mahaffey volunteered on May 5 and Claudine Cash, Cheryl Cates and Carolyn Venable fixed hair on May 12.

Each of the women residents were given a long stemmed red rose and refreshments of candy dipped strawberries and dainty sandwiches with punch was served to everyone. Several family members were present for the event.

Ray and Wanda Cummins led the singing at the Church Services on April 24 and Oscar Ragan of the Beaver First Baptist Church gave the message. Jim Parker, Pastor of the Beaver First Baptist Church conducted the services on May 1, and on May 8, Billy Hawkins of the Beaver First Baptist Church led the services. The services are held in the East Dining Room each Sunday.

The Balko Baptist Church Ladies hosted this month’s Theme Party. The women brought cookies and fresh fruit that were served with punch. Everyone participated in the singing of several favorite hymns.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Louise Taylor and the family and friends of Turl Gray. Louise had been a resident here since June of 2004 and Turl was a recent admission. We will miss them.

We have enjoyed watching all the pretty birds that are coming to our bird feeders by the east and west dining rooms. They are fun to watch and we have seen some unusual ones as well as the robins and sparrows.

Dennis Woods of the Beaver Assembly of God conducted the Church Services for our residents on April 3. The group met in the East Dining Room and Louise Barr played the piano for the song service.

Opal James was dismissed.

Our Activity Director, Carolyn Venable, accompanied the residents on the April 5th Bus Tour. They went on a ride around the countryside of Beaver. The Tour went southwest of Beaver on April 12 and Claudine Cash went with them.

We have had some staff changes in the Nursing Department. Tonnia Doran RN, is the Director of Nurses and Tammy Pugh RN, is the Assistant Director of Nurses. Their offices are located north of the Nurses Station on the East Wing.

The Resident Council met during the morning Round Table Activity on April 14. While the Activity Assistant gave everyone their refreshments the Social Service Director talked with the residents to find out how they were doing and if they had any problems she could help them with.

Under new business we talked about the Cow Chip activities and the parade to be held at the end of the week. Our King and Queen will be riding in it. The beautiful spring weather and the birds coming to the feeder outside the dining room window were among the many topics we had a discussion about. There was no old business to discuss and we adjourned after everyone finished their refreshments.

Spring was the theme at the monthly Theme Party on April 14. The Activity Department served cupcakes and punch for refreshments and we had piano music for entertainment.

MARCH NURSING HOME NEWS 03-21-05

Our Bus Tour on March 1 went south of town to see a baby stud colt belonging to Stella Hamman. Afterwards they came back to the fairgrounds to see the animals at the stock show, before going out to the sandhills and lake.

Stella Hamman accompanied Janice Drum, Vernon Raven, Clarence Voth, Lois Gourley, Louise Barr and Genneve Overton on the afternoon drive. Vernon Raven, Fleta Ritterbush, Louise Barr, Virgie Chaloupek, Clarence Voth and Velma Gaona participated in the March 8 Bus Tour.

Claudine Cash accompanied the group as they toured the Turpin cut-through, visited Floris and drove around the grain elevators. The weather was too cold on March 15 for them to go.

St. Patrick’s Day was the subject discussed during the March Resident Counsel Meeting on March 10. The Social Service Director visited with each of the residents before the discussion began and one of the residents said she had misplaced her Beaver newspaper so the SS director got her a new one.

Under New Business we talked about the Theme Party to be held on St. Patrick’s Day and that started a talk about how the famine in Ireland caused many of the Irish people to lose their livelihood and a large number of the population starved. Many people were forced to immigrate to America by their landlords.

There wasn’t any Old Business. We enjoyed the brownies and beverages the Activity Department served us before the meeting closed.

The monthly Birthday Party was held on March 10 in the East Dining Room. We had white cake decorated with lime Jell-O and green decorating sugar granules, which was served with lime sherbet punch.

We had piano music for entertainment. Residents celebrating birthdays in March are Eva Shook, Elaine Fry, Kim Gourley, Marie Cole and Norma Cannon and they each received a small gift. We sang "Happy Birthday" to them also.

Doris Cook, Joe Caldwell, Genneve Overton and Ester Reiswig will be celebrating birthdays in April.

Recent Bingo winners were Virgie Chaloupek, Fern Hamilton, Janice Drum, Louise Barr, Ilda Couch, Betha Anz, Florence Sorter, Vernon Raven, Nola Owens, Lois Gourley, Florence Gleason, Vena Sprague, Fleta Ritterbush, Velma Gaona, Doris Canaday, Everett Oswald and Mable Adams.

The Clearlake OHCE Club hosted an afternoon of Bingo on March 14 and they had prizes of homemade cookies and fruit. The Activities Dept. served sodas during the games.

We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a party in the East Dining Room. Refreshments of shamrock cookies and punch were served while we listened to Irish songs. The Activity Dept. decorated the nursing home with colorful decorations for the holiday.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Dr. Ed Calhoon and the family and friends of Rae Kennedy and Charles Bond. Dr. Calhoon had worked with us for many years. Rae had been a resident here since November 2004 and Charles was admitted in August 2002. We will miss them.

The Forgan Methodist Church conducted the Church Services here at the nursing home on March 20. Pastor Timothy Heemstra also led the devotional on Thursday mornings for us several times this month.
