On July 26, 2005 the Beaver County 4-H Youth took part in a community beautification project
conducted by Beaver County OSU Extension at J. C. Park on the corner of 2nd Street and Q
Avenue in Beaver, Oklahoma. The youth built a bench, planted several flowering plants
and rose bushes, and painted the equipment in the park, including two new trash barrels
donated to the park by the City of Beaver.  The 4-H Youth attending the community
beautification project included A. J. Hamer, Katy King, Evan Walsh, Kryston Walsh, and
Jaden Pierce.
Adult volunteers included Samantha Pritchett and Rosa Eagan. Thank you to all of those who
aided in this community project!

Kids can cook up some fun at the Beef Cooking School. Youth ages 9 to 19 are invited to sign up now for the Youth Beef Cooking School conducted by the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.

The cooking schools will focus on why eating beef is good for you, ways to stay safe in the kitchen, and how to cook some great beef foods. It will be held on August 2 at the Beaver County Fair Building.

Kid friendly beef recipes like BBQ Beef Quesadilla Wedges, Cheese "Steak" Pizza, and Easy Beef Chili will be made and tasted! "Learning to cook is a skill that will be helpful to kids throughout their lives. And kids generally enjoy eating what they have fixed," stated Liz Gardner-McBee, Beaver County Extension Educator, FCS.

During the Beef Cooking School, the youth will learn how to add some ZIP to their diets by having fun and learning to cook nutritious beef foods. Zip stands for zinc, iron and protein, which are all important to growing bodies.

The Beef Cooking School will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the Fair Building. Contact the Beaver Co. Extension Service at 580-625-3464 to register.

There is no cost to participate in the Beef Cooking School but registration ends July 29. The cooking school is being funded in part by a grant from Oklahoma’s beef producers’ $1-per-head check-off program through the Oklahoma Beef Council.
